QUESTS

Gameplay: An event activates a quest, causing a ! to appear somewhere (probably over
the head of an NPC). The ! remains invisible until activated, unless no activation
is set for it, in which case it is visible at the start. If you press use on the !
for the first time, you get a quest description in a pop-up text box and the quest
is assigned to you. This also causes the quest item to become visible. If you keep
pressing use on the !, you keep getting the same description unless you have the
quest item. Once the quest has been assigned to you, it is listed under the Quests
tab on your character sheet, with a picture of the quest item. If you hover the
mouse over the quest name, then a quest description appears in a pop-up text box.

The quest item is a sprite that can look like anything (similar to the shop items).
When you pick it up, it is actually getting deleted and a flag is set to show it is
now owned by the player. It cannot be dropped. When you go back to the ! and press
use again, the flag is cleared, it is no longer listed as a quest, an activation
occurs, and now you get a new text box for having completed the quest. At this point,
the ! becomes invisible again, however you can still press use on it and get the
completed quest dialogue, thanking you for getting the item or whatever, unless
the ! is actually deleted. Quest rewards are all handled by the activation that
occurs when the quest completes. The activation could trigger another sprite that
 gives the player rewards.

Mapping instructions:

The ! actor

HITAG: This is the trigger to make the ! appear. If left at 0, the ! will be visible
at game start.
Otherwise, it becomes visible when the HITAG is triggered.

LOTAG: This is the activation that occurs when the item is brought back. It is also the quest ID #, and will be used by the game to identify the quest (it will be used on the quest item sprite as well). So this cannot be left at 0.

XVEL: An optional tag which causes an activation when the quest begins. This is useful for example if you want the NPC to unlock a door to the area where the quest item is at the start of the quest.

YVEL: This is only used if you want the ! to be deleted. Deleting the ! would be useful if you wanted more than one quest on the same NPC you could put multiple ! at the same location over the NPC's head, making sure they get activated and deleted in the appropriate sequence. As a failsafe, the deletion trigger will only succeed if the quest has been completed.

EXTRA: This is the quote # for the name of the quest. Quotes should be arranged
in the following format (this is the same format that I talked about earlier):

Initial number = name of quest
Next 9 quotes = description of quest (used in Quests tab)
Next 10 quotes = NPC dialogue for assigning the quest
Next 10 quotes = NPC dialogue for completing the quest

For example, if the ! actor EXTRA is set to 1000, then quote 1000 is the quest name,
1001-1009 is the description, 1010-1019 is the first dialogue, and 1020-1029 is the
completion dialogue. It is not necessary to use every single quote assigned to the
quest, but unused quotes should be defined and then left blank (e.g. "definequote
1009 ")

The Quest item

HITAG: Set this to the tile number you want the quest item to look like.
LOTAG: This is the quest #. It must be the same as the LOTAG on the corresponding !
Sprite.
EXTRA: An optional tag which causes an activation when the item is picked up. This could be used for example to trigger a trap (such as a rolling boulder) if the item is a valuable artifact.

The Quest Reward Sprite

This sprite gives the player XP or gold or both when it is triggered. Normally it
would be used in conjunction with a quest, but it could be used for other purposes
as well. The Reward sprite will play a sound and make a quote appear that says, You
have been rewarded!.

HITAG: The amount of gold it gives the player
LOTAG: The tag which triggers the reward to the player.
EXTRA: The amount of XP it gives to the player
YVEL: This is an optional activation that occurs after the reward is given. This
could be used to delete a ! sprite, for example.
